Onyx Kimono Jumpsuit
Cut from two different kimonos, the Onyx jumpsuit is reconstructed in a flattering silhouette with a waist-cinching belt.
The jumpsuit is cut for a loose fit through the bodice and sleeves and falls to cropped, wide legs enhanced by subtle pockets. Wear yours with flat sandals, leaving a few buttons undone to create a flattering V-neck.
About the kimonos:
The top is made from a Same-Komon kimono. Named after the Japanese word for shark, the Same-Komon pattern is known for its intricate detail, resembling sharkskin. This pattern often symbolizes protection. Traditionally, a bride would bring a Same-Komon kimono into her home in the hope of protecting her and her new family.
The bottom is made from a Kasuri kimono - Kasuri, meaning scratched in Japanese. These kimonos are known for their patterns which have a scratched, brushed or blurred appearance. Similar to Ikat dyeing, the threads are tie-dyed in specific patterns prior to weaving, and when woven together, the undyed areas interlace to form patterns, with many variations.
